How to set up Connected Voice Basic service

Connected Voice will only work for phones that are directly connected to the Connected Voice adapter.

We recommend that you use cordless phones with your Connected Voice service. Connect the adapter to the cordless handset base station and distribute the remote handsets throughout your house.

Any phones connected to wall jacks will not work with your Connected Voice service.

Connect the adapter

The Connected Voice adapter will automatically self-configure after it's connected to your CenturyLink internet service. All you need to do is plug in the device and connect the cables.

  1. Find a good place for the adapter.
Place the adapter near your modem. As with most electronic equipment, pick a place that has good air circulation, so it won't get too hot.

  2. Connect cords and cables.
Plug one end of your Ethernet cable into the Internet port on the back of the adapter and the other end into an Ethernet port on the back of your modem. Then insert a standard telephone cable into the Phone 1 port and plug the other end of the cable into your touch-tone telephone or cordless phone base.

  3. Power up your Connected Voice adapter.
Connect the power adapter to the Power port on the back of the Connected Voice adapter and plug it in. The "POWER" light on the front of the Connected Voice adapter should light up.

  4. Let the adapter self-configure.
Your Connected Voice adapter will now automatically self-configure to work with your Connected Voice service.

Give it time to configure

The configuration process can take up to 15 minutes. Do not unplug or restart the device while any of the lights are flashing. Doing so may corrupt the firmware and cause the unit to malfunction.

The configuration process is complete when the lights for "POWER", "INTERNET" and "PHONE1" on the front of the Connected Voice adapter are all solid green. After this, you can begin using your service.

Find your Connected Voice phone number

You can find your Connected Voice phone number a couple of ways:

  1. Make a call from the Connected Voice phone to a number with caller ID
  2. Sign in to your account

Sign in to your Connected Voice account

You'll receive a welcome email after you order your Connected Voice service. This email will include your username and a link to create your password. After you're signed in, you can view account details, call records, voicemail messages, and more.

Don't forget about battery back-up

Your Connected Voice service will not work in the event of a power outage unless you you have a battery backup unit. Learn more about battery backups.
